Ruth French

We honor violinist Ruth French and the incredible impact she made, and continues to make, over the course of her 62 year teaching career. We honor her legacy by celebrating young violinists in our community through the biennial Ruth French Violin Competition.

The biennial Ruth French Violin Competition

Saturday March 16th, 2024

Competition: 10am-4pm

Finalists Recital: 7pm

Violin students in grades 3-12 whose teacher is in metro Louisville may compete.

Division I: 3rd - 7th grade // $200 prize

Division II: 8th - 12th grade // $275 prize

You must be available to play for the finalists recital at 7pm and provide your own pianist for the audition and recital if needed. A showpiece, movement of a concerto, or solo repertoire are all accepted. It is recommended that works are memorized.

Contestants will receive constructive written feedback from 3 judges and have a chance to play in the finalists' recital. Competitions are a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved, and we hope you will join us for this event celebrating young violinists in our community!
